Is an oil cooler essential

I have a 79 Mazda RX-7 normally aspirated engine that I'm  running without an oil cooler. I'm concerned that I am not getting sufficient engine cooling even though the water temp does not rise above mid scale. Should I add a cooler?

Re: Is an oil cooler essential

I believe the vehicle didn't come with an engine oil cooler, if the vehicle came with an oil cooler it was for an automatic transmission if it was equipped with one.

If the engine is running at normal temperature I don't believe you would need one.

If you feel comfortable using one they have universal engine oil cooling kits that include an engine oil filter relocation adapter on ebay or you can find one at your local speed shop.
