It STUDDERS!

Hello everyone,

I have a 1994 Geo Prizm 1.6.

While driving it started to "jump" forward repeatedly. Nothing all that drastic, but somethings wrong.  I commute to work every day, and I'm a single mother so my cars reliability is very important.

It "jumps" after its running at normal temp, and only when I accelerate.

What I have done so far:

Replaced air intake tube (it was ripped), replaced the MAP Sensor.

I'm open to all and any advice.

Thank you for reading. Kellie;)

Re: It STUDDERS!

With out being there to witness this it is hard to make a positive diagnosis on your description.

There are a few areas that could cause this like ignition related components, transmission and or fuel.

The key to this is it happens when the engine is warm. It could be ignition related or transmission related.

The simplest problem could be just a bad spark plug, spark plug wire, or ignition coil.

The other could be a more difficult malfunction of the torque converter clutch (lock up converter).

Having a trained certified mechanic check the ignition system and transmission shifting with a scan tool can help determine which area is causing this and can confirm a diagnosis.
