odometer not listing correct miles driven.

90 century custom/ 3.3 lt. if I drive 10 miles, only 4 miles show on odometer. speedometer working fine  car does not  have trip odometer, ABS, or cruise control .  could bad planetary gear be reason

It sounds like the odometer is faulty. If you have regular speed indicated on the speedometer it shows the PM generator and transmission gear are working properly.

The internal working parts of the odometer need to be repaired.You can take your speedometer to your local dealer and have them repair the speedometer. Or send in the speedometer to one of these repair centers I listed below.

General Motors provides service for sophisticated electronic products through the authorized AC Delco Service Center Program. This program is designed to provide GM vehicle owners with the highest quality and most technically up-to-date product available. Repair products from unauthorized service outlets are not acceptable as warranty replacements.

Currently, there are 25 authorized AC Delco Service Centers who exchange and remanufacture odometer/speedometers (list included). Only these Centers should be contacted for service.
Important: W series and 1997 T series Medium Duty truck odometer/speedometers must be ordered directly from GMSPO.

The following steps should be taken when utilizing the AC Delco Service Centers: Dealers should contact their local AC Delco Service Center (list included). Any listed facility may be used.

The following information must be provided:
Part number
VIN, Mileage, Vehicle Year, Make and Model
Dealer Name and Address
Delivery Date of Vehicle
Name of the person requesting exchange or service
Phone number
Repair Order Number
P.O. number (if non - warranty)
