My car is a 1991 toyota 4runner, It has a v6 EFI, A few days ago I blew a head gasket. And I'm trying to locate the VIN number on the engine, because the engine is new to the car and new to me. But the 91' 4 runners had a recall on them because of the problems with overheating, thus blowing head gaskets. I'm just trying to figure out how to find this VIN number on my engine so I can see if it matches up with the recalled one. Thanks. And I'm a female so this is 10x harder than it should be.
I hope this information helps you. If not I will look further. Some of this information is from the Alldata information website.
ENGINE CODE EXPLANATION:
1st Digit - Engine generation code
2nd Letter - Engine model code (VIN)
Following Dash: C - USA Spec. engines
E - Fuel injection
F - Twin camshafts
G - Twin camshafts
L - Transverse engine
T - Turbocharged
Z - Supercharged
In order to qualify for a recall the manufacturer is looking at the VIN (vehicle identification number) behind the left lower corner of the windshield.
Even if you did confirm the engine was one of the defective batch, it would not be covered by the recall if it's not the original engine.
