OBD2 code PO106

2005 Ford Escape 3.0litre 6cly engine. Check engine light on. I used OBD2 code reader. Got code PO106 which is manifold absolute pressure/barometric pressure circuit range/performance problem.  Engine makes constant popping noise which seems to start when engine is warmed up. Where do I start looking for this problem? Where is map sensor located on this engine?

Re: OBD2 code PO106

I have given you a picture to let you know where the MAP sensor is. It is listed below; if you don't have diagnostic experience then you should get a professional mechanic to check it out. Computer diagnostics in today's cars is very complicated and one wrong step can be a costly mistake.

You need a digital volt meter and know how to check the voltages at the MAP sensor and also the PCM. A professional mechanic has a scanner that does so much more than a code reader. It will give him the voltages needed and may have internal testing capabilities.

Re: OBD2 code PO106

Thank you very much for your time and efforts regarding my problem with the 2005 ford escape. You guys are the best. I am a licensed truck and coach technician, so I do have diagnostic experience. But of coarse mainly with the large diesel engines.

Re: OBD2 code PO106

Keep that "popping" sound in mind. There may be a mechanical engine problem (valvetrain) which is affecting engine vacuum and setting the MAP sensor code.
