My mother owns a 1989 Century and the air conditioner suddenly stopped working. The car has 80,000 miles but has always been very reliable. My question is "is there a fuse that may have failed that would cause this". Everything else seems fine; the fan, etc. It seems as if the compressor is not kicking in. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Most cases of the air conditioner compressor not kicking in is usually a low refrigerant level. Having a shop mechanic put pressure gauges on the system can tell him if there is enough pressure in the system. If the pressure is good than he would have to trace the electrical circuit of the compressor to see why there is no power to the compressor. If it is a blown fuse than the problem would have to be looked into to see why the fuse blew in the first place.
