My 1997 Pontiac Grand Am 2dr coupe/2.4L, 4 cyl. cranks but wont start. I put in a new ignition switch, new ignition control module, new spark plugs/boots, and a new fuel filter. Before the vehicle stopped running all the gauges stopped working, not sure if that has anything to do with it. There is fuel pressure at the rail but I don't have a gauge to test it. I'm at my wit's end and it feels like I'm just throwing parts at this car, hoping something works. I also rented a scan tool but I couldn't pull any codes to help me.
The gauges not working may be related because they and the ignition system receive ignition voltage at the same time.
You should have tested before replacing parts:
Check for spark at the plugs while cranking.
No spark >> check the brown wires at the 2 ignition coils for 12 volts with the ignition in the "On" position.
No voltage >> I would start by checking the "IGN MOD" 20 amp fuse in the under-hood fuse box.
