Steering Wheel Lock

Is it possible to remove the steering wheel lock on an 03 Dodge Ram I tow this truck and it would like not to have to leave the key in while towing.
On my 01 JGC I was able to remove the lock cog and was hoping to do the same with the Dodge

Re: Steering Wheel Lock

Please read the message again, I am not asking how to remove the cylinder, I am asking if I can disable the steering wheel lock so the wheel will turn free when it is being towed without the key in the ignition.

Re: Steering Wheel Lock

The only way to remove the key and to move the steering wheel is to remove the lock cylinder.

This is an anti-theft device, when the key is removed you can't steer the vehicle.

That's why the car thieves bust the steering column open to break the lock that holds the steering wheel.

It's because they don't have a key.

Sorry the information I provided didn't help.

Re: Steering Wheel Lock

By stepping on the brake you can turn the key and the steering wheel will unlock in the first position, the power will not be turned on, if you turn the key to the next position the ignition will turn on.

Just unlock the steering wheel to the first position the power will remain off.
