Hi, I am replacing the starter on my 1968 Chevy P/U 3/4 ton, 327 small block, automatic. I disconnected wires and did not note which goes to the switch connection on starter solenoid. There is a purple wire and a yellow wire that connects from starter to distributor coil. Please help ?
The purple wire is for the starter, the yellow is for the ignition coil.
In the future if you get confused, get your test light and connect the clip to ground and put the point of the test light to the wire. Turn the key on like you were going to start the engine and the light will light up, just let the key go to the on position and the light will go out. This will help you to identify the wires in the future.
OK Great !
Random tip so you don't find the same problem I did. If you extend the wire that runs closest to the exhaust manifold and zip tie it away it wont fuse itself to the manifold and kill your truck halfway down the road. Happened to me in traffic at night.
Thanks for the tip, it will be helpful.
