New engine for 95 S-10

I recently acquired  a 95 without an engine. Manual tranny. Would it be reasonable to put a 2.2 diesel in it? Can I get a crate engine? OR what is the newest year used engine I can use without a lot of hassle.

Re: New engine for 95 S-10

Check the eighth digit in the VIN to find out what the original engine was. It was either the 2.2L (VIN 4 - Gas) or 4.3L V6 (VIN W or Z).

I would strongly suggest installing an original used or rebuilt engine. That way all parts, wiring harnesses, etc will match. Otherwise, it gets much more complicated and expensive.

You can call a salvage yard to find out what year engines will fit in the '95 model year chassis.

The 2.2L diesel engine would be a major project to convert.
