I have a 2003 expedition with the steering wheel controls that are going flaky.
If i change channels it changes the volume or channel jumps when i raise the
temp on the heater. is this a job repair that a shade tree mechanic can do????
This is definitely a job for an experienced Ford technician, and may require a scanner made specifically for Ford body control systems. The steering wheel controls may very well be the problem, and this can be confirmed by scanning the system for diagnostic trouble codes. B2404 is one of the codes that may come up. After that, there's a long trouble shooting procedure with the use of the scanner and a digital volt/ohm meter.
Safety issues are also a big concern because the steering wheel controls are part of the truck's supplemental restraint system (air bag).
Getting it to a dealer is the best way to go.
thank you for your reply. next oil change i will have them do the scan and test.
have a great week.
