Very rough idle when A/C is on. Acceleration seems to lag?

I have a 2007 Camry LE, 110,000 miles.  Rough idle when in drive & A/C is on. Almost non-existent when A/C is off but not gone completely. Also noticing car seems to lag upon acceleration, seems to be smothering/bogging. I have a couple of thoughts but don't need to spend money unnecessarily. Any suggestions? And it isn't motor mounts.... smile

When you put the A/C on it puts a load on the engine which can make the vibration more noticeable. You may have a cylinder misfire going on. Check your spark plugs to see if any are fouled with oil, there are a few service bulletins on oil consumption. It sounds like you have a dead cylinder (misfire).

Is the check engine light on? There are a few other service bulletins on engine performance which can cause a vibration. I know you don't want to spend a lot of money but this is a starting point. The EGR valve could be stuck open causing this, the valve would have to be removed and cleaned of carbon or replaced. It could also be other things like a coil or wiring issues but check the plugs first.

A certified mechanic using a scan tool can help diagnosis these issues.
